2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The Lord’s Promise But Your Responsibility
The phrase “Peace on earth, and mercy mild. God and sinners reconciled” points to the Lord’s vision: a world where fellowship exists between God and man. But this peace is not automatic—it is 100% dependent on reconciliation with God.
Without man accepting that reconciliation, true peace remains elusive and nonexistent. Human conflict, natural disasters, and inner turmoil are symptoms of mans spiritual condition. People may seek temporary peace through wealth, power, or relationships, yet these efforts cannot satisfy the deeper need for peace and restoration with God.
Why Man Refuses Reconciliation
- **Rebellion Against Authority – God’s mercy requires humility. You might view reconciliation as a loss of control or independence, so you resist.
- **Misunderstanding God’s Mercy – You fear that coming to God exposes you to judgment rather than mercy. You fail to recognise that God’s mercy is mild, not harsh, and leads to peace rather than condemnation.
