Your “Not Enough” Becomes More Than Enough with God

Man’s Inability Is The Lord’s Opportunity

Joh 6:8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,
9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

Jesus and his disciples are faced with a massive crowd of people who are hungry and need to be fed. The disciples are concerned about how they can possibly provide for so many people, as there are about 5,000 men, not counting women and children.

The Power of Being Available

The key insights about service from this passage include:

You are encouraged to offer what they have to the Lord, trusting that even a little can make a substantial difference when combined with purpose and faith. When you focus on being available for service, you become part of a greater purpose, your inabilities or capacity no longer become factors.

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

The Bite That Broke Black Friday: A Glutton’s Tale

For want of a taste, the dishes piled high,
Each morsel devoured with a guilty-pleased sigh.
For want of restraint, you missed the delight—
Of Black Friday queues forming deep in the night.

Gluttony is seen not just as a dietary issue but a spiritual flaw that indicates a prioritisation of earthly pleasures over spiritual maturity. Proverbs 23:20-21 warns against feasting with gluttonous individuals, highlighting that those who overindulge will face poverty. Cultivating self-discipline and recognizing the importance of balance in all aspects of life, and demonstrating spiritual growth.

Transform Your Thanksgiving: British Hospitality Hacks

Three Simple Rules for a Wonderful Thanksgiving

1. Avoid Experimentation: Thanksgiving is not the occasion for culinary experiments. If you’ve never cooked or baked a dish before, please don’t make us your test subjects.

2. No Rebranding: This is not the moment to take credit for someone else's baking. If it’s made by Sara Lee, let it be known—don’t put your name on it.

3. Embrace Gratitude: Thanksgiving is about appreciation, so steer clear of turning it into a pity party. Focus on the positives.

***

Friendly Advice

Think of Thanksgiving like a proper British afternoon tea - it's about warmth, connection, and a dash of good humour. Keep it simple, keep it genuine, and for goodness' sake, keep the drama to a minimum.

Stick to these rules, and you'll navigate the day with the grace of a seasoned diplomat at a royal garden party. Cheerio, and happy Thanksgiving!

The Legacy of Diligence and Righteous Wealth

The Role of Diligence in Wealth Creation

Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just

Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. (gain/return from honest effort)

The inheritance that endures is the one built through honest labour and biblical principles. The riches that pass from the wicked to the just are not gained overnight, but through faithful work and godly stewardship. In God’s economy, increase belongs not to those who chase vanity but to those who gather by labour faithfully, for their work aligns with His righteousness and He causes it to multiply into a legacy that blesses you and future generations.

Lasting Inheritance

There is a biblical principle that wealth derived from fleeting, dishonest, or lazy schemes (vanity) is unstable and will eventually disappear. In contrast, wealth earned through labor meaning diligence, persistence, and faithful effort is the kind that increases and acts as a template for those who follow.

The "good man" is the one who practices righteousness, the one who "gathereth by labour." Because his wealth is stable and increasing (from the first verse), he stands on biblical principles creating a legacy that extends to future generations.

The man who gathereth by labour (v. 11) is, by definition, the good man (v. 22) whose wealth will increase (v. 11), allowing him to leave a stable inheritance to his children's children (v. 22).

Summary:

The importance of working diligently and righteously, linking the gathering of wealth through labor to the broader principle of providing for future generations. The underlying message encourages you to strive for the mastery and earn success, which is a pattern that has lasting value for you and your children.

Dry Snitching

 You Tell On Yourself

“You tell on yourself by the friends you seek,

By the very manner in which you speak;

By the way you employ your leisure time,

By the use you make of dollar and dime

You tell what you are by the things you wear,

By the spirit in which your burdens you bear;

By the kind of things at which you laugh,

By the records you play on the phonograph,

You tell what you are by the way you walk,

By the things of which you delight to talk;

By the manner in which you bear defeat,

By so simple a thing as how you eat.

By the books you choose from the well-filled shelf,

In these ways, and more, you tell on yourself.

So, there’s really no particle of sense,

In an effort to keep up false pretense.”

In these ways, and more, you tell on yourself.

Consistency: The Quiet Proof of Christlike Character

The Transformative Power of Consistency in Christianity

The statement "Consistency is the beauty of Christianity" emphasizes the importance of steadfastness and confidence in your faith. It reflects a commitment to daily living like a Christian, cultivating a character that aligns with bible principles. This consistency is not merely about following rules but about embracing bible truth in all aspects of your life.

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14) suggests a sense of striving, aiming, and reaching for a higher goal. This pursuit is a reflection of the believer's ongoing journey toward spiritual maturity and being like Christ.

The Righteous Judge's Reward

You see that consistency in faith leads to a focused pursuit of the Lord’s calling. A consistent Christian life manifests in turning away from distractions and hand-in-hand with the resolute effort to reach the prize. Ultimately, as believers press on, you can look forward to the righteous judge's reward: the promise of eternal life and the joy of the Lord.

From Distraction to Devotion

Purpose-Driven Minutes, Hour, Day, Year

Ephesians 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Colossians 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Seizing Christ’s Opportunities in a Watching World

Situation: The present age is dangerous and morally, physically, spiritually menacing — "the days are evil" signals pervasive spiritual and ethical threaten your spiritual freedom and resolve. The world is watching, and because time is vanishing, walk wisely—seizing every opportunity for Christ.

Walking in Wisdom

To "walk in wisdom toward them that are without" implies:

Redeem the Time: Start now — prioritise meaningful conversations, prayer, read your bible with purpose and become a purpose driven disciple. Reject distractions that consume your time. Schedule daily practices (prayer, Scripture, witness) so every second of time is reclaimed for the glory of the Lord.

Potter Vs. Clay

Romans 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

Understanding the Role of the Potter and the Clay

Paul interrupts all human objections with a single humbling question:
Modern vernacular: Who are you?

Here Paul draws attention to the infinite distance between Creator and creature. The contrast is staggering:

  • The clay: it cannot move, or alter its shape on its own. It is entirely at the mercy of the potter, who can shape it into a vessel for honourable.
  • The Potter: The potter can press, pull, and fire the clay, determining its final form. This reflects God’s prerogative to assign different purposes and make what he wants for his glory.

The potter’s authority and freedom

  • Purposeful prerogative: The Potter’s freedom is not arbitrary chaos but purpose discretion: He assigns functions and focus according to his will.
  • Prerogative without counsel: The rhetorical question “who hath been his counsellor?” underlines that the Potter does not consult another to determine how to shape the clay. His wisdom and will suffice.
  • Prerogative and wisdom: The passage stresses authority, it also invites you and all others: finite creatures lack the perspective to critique the Lords choices. The Potter’s right to shape is coupled with access to comprehensive knowledge and his almighty power that the clay lacks.
These passages present a profound meditation on the inefficiency of the clay: you are represented as limited and dependent. The distinction of vessel molded by the Potter signifies the Lord purpose inherent in each individual. The passages emphasise the clay's complete dependence on the Potter and the Potter's absolute authority to shape it as he pleases.

How long will you continue to resist the Potter of your soul?

The Eternal Perspective of the Born Again Believer

New Life, New Direction, New Vision

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

The Resurrection Connection

"If ye then be risen with Christ," refers to more than a historical event of the empty tomb. It speaks to a spiritual resurrection, your acceptance and belief of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ- the believer's identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection through faith. This means:

  • You have been spiritually reborn
  • You have died to your old self
  • Your identity is now in Christ

The apostle Paul is urging believers who have been “risen with Christ”—that is, Christ in you and you in Christ—to have a consistent view of eternity. As believers, we are no longer bound by our old sinful nature, but have been given new life in Christ.

Waiting in the Redemption of Our Bodies

While we await the full redemption of our bodies, we labour and patiently wait:

In summary, now that we are risen with Christ, we must be heavenly minded seeking heavenly things and wait expectantly for the day when our bodies share in His glory.

In All Things He Might Have The Preeminence

Before All, Beyond All, The Almighty God

Psalm 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

God's Superposition

In quantum mechanics, superposition refers to the principle that a quantum system can exist in multiple states simultaneously until it is measured. This concept can be metaphorically extended to theology where God's superposition is not just preeminent but implies that God exists in a state of infinite possibilities and potentialities, encompassing all aspects of space, creation and existence.

The Protection of the Lord

The passage from Psalm 36:7 highlights the trust and refuge that a Christian can find in God's word and promises. The imagery of putting their trust "under the shadow of thy wings" implies a sense of protection, care, and intimacy. The believer finds safety because the perfect God of the universe is everywhere and in every possible state and can help in every situation.

Science's Limitations

While science has made remarkable strides in understanding the physical universe, it often falls short in providing comprehensive explanations for certain fundamental aspects:

  1. The Origins of the Universe: Science offers theories like the Big Bang, but it struggles to explain the initial conditions that led to the universe's creation. The concept of God's superposition suggests a God who transcends scientific explanation.
  2. The Origins of Spoken Language: The emergence of spoken language in humans is a complex phenomenon that science has not fully elucidated. Theological perspectives might offer insights into the divine spark that enabled human communication.
  3. Describing Consciousness: Consciousness remains one of the most enigmatic aspects of human existence. While neuroscience provides some understanding of brain functions, it does not fully capture the subjective experience of consciousness. The idea of God's superposition implies a deeper, spiritual dimension to consciousness that science cannot fully explain.

In conclusion, while science provides insights into the physical world, there are still significant gaps in its explanations, particularly concerning the deepest questions about existence, the origins of complex human language, and the essence of consciousness.

Science, the floor is yours...

The Lord’s Cosmic Order

The Lord Unveiling the Universe

Job 38:33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

The passage posed a profound question about the understanding and control of natural phenomena in the universe. Let's explore three natural phenomena that occur in space and the sky, and develop the understanding how they all operate at the direct order of the Lord.

1. Celestial Bodies and Orbits

Celestial bodies such as planets, stars, and moons follow precise orbits dictated by gravitational forces. For example, the Earth orbits the Sun in a nearly elliptical path, taking about 365.25 days to complete one revolution. The force of gravity regulates the distances, ensuring that each celestial body maintains its designated position. This intricate balance is maintained purely by the will of God.

2. Auroras

Auroras, often referred to as the Aurora Borealis or Aurora Australis, are spectacular light displays in polar regions, resulting from the interaction of the Earth's magnetic field with charged particles from the sun. When these solar particles collide with gases in the atmosphere, they produce vibrant colors like green, pink, and purple. This enchanting phenomenon reminds us of the forces of nature, entirely independent of human influence.

3. Eclipses

Solar and lunar eclipses represent another fascinating natural event. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking sunlight. Conversely, during a lunar eclipse, the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the lunar surface. These eclipses can only happen during specific alignments of the celestial bodies and happen predictably, based on the mechanics of our solar system, regardless of human activities.

Complexity is the Lords art

These natural phenomena are all governed by the ordinances that the Lord has set in motion, and are not influenced by human actions. The Earth's rotation, the Moon's orbit, and the Sun's energy output are just a few examples of the many factors that contribute to these events. None of them are affected by man’s authority; humans may observe, model, and sometimes respond to their effects, but he cannot set, control, or recreate these ordinances.

In conclusion, these natural wonders are a gift from God and a reminder of the vast and complex universe that the Lord’s Jesus Christ created.

The Silent And Sure Justice of God

The Assurance

Ecclesiastes 8:12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

  • Prolonged Life of the Sinner:

    • We must acknowledges that sinners may live long lives despite their evil deeds. This observation highlights the apparent injustice in the world where the wicked often seem to prosper and escape immediate consequences for their actions.

  • God’s Justice:

    • The phrase "yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God" emphasizes the God’s ultimate justice. While the wicked may temporarily escape punishment, those who fear God and live righteously will be handsomely rewarded.

  • Fear of God:

    • The term "fear God" in this context means to be in obedience and righteous. It is not a fear of punishment but a profound awe and respect that guides one's actions.

Practical takeaway

Final Reflection

Ecclesiastes 8:12 teaches that sin’s persistence does not erase God’s justice. Though evil may seem to flourish, and sinners may enjoy long days, their time is measured. The true measure of life is not duration, but relationship to God. In the end, justice will be rendered: Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
