The Mechanism of Spiritual Deception
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Spiritual cause and effect
Deception is ultimately a futile attempt to circumvent biblical principles. The warning "God is not mocked" emphasizes the immutability of spiritual consequences.
Sin deceives by minimizing its impact in the moment while hiding its long-term effects. It whispers that a small compromise is harmless, that no one will notice, or that repentance later will erase all consequences. The false promise is exposed: “He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption.” Corruption is not instant; it is the slow decay that begins the moment sin’s seed is planted. The harvest may be delayed, but it is inevitable.
Sin's Progressive Nature
"Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay" - is a powerful metaphorical description of sin's deceptive and progressive nature. It illustrates how:
- Sin is progressive: Typically it gradually draws you away from the presence of the Lord.
- Sin is addictive: Once engaged, it becomes increasingly difficult to break free, keeping you trapped beyond your initial intention.
- Sin is costly: The price of compromise extends far beyond immediate gratification, impacting personal, relational, and spiritual growth.
