When Earthly Glory Fades, Only the Wisdom of God Endures

The Perfect Wisdom of God Revealed

1 Corinthians 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

Biblical Wisdom Versus Temporal Authority

In 1 Corinthians 2:6, the Holy Ghost draws a sharp line of
demarcation between two distinct realms of understanding: the temporal, perishable wisdom of human institutions and the eternal, revealed wisdom of God. Central to this distinction is the stark declaration regarding the rulers and philosophies of the present age; they "come to nought." The world often measures wisdom by education, influence, wealth, political power, social status, and the ability to control circumstances. Its leaders may appear invincible, its institutions may seem unshakable, and its achievements may command the admiration of generations.

The End of All Earthly Wisdom—“Come to Nought"

The phrase "come to nought" carries profound significance. It does not merely mean becoming unpopular or outdated. Rather, it speaks to inevitable dissolution, complete failure, and ultimate irrelevance. The wisdom of earthly princes, their strategies, their philosophies, their systems of control and dominion; are destined to dissolve into nothing. Their kingdoms crumble. Their philosophies prove hollow. Their monuments decay. Their influence evaporates like morning mist beneath the rising sun.

This is not prophecy about distant futures alone; it is present reality understood through faith's lens. Every structure built on worldly wisdom, however magnificent it appears, carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. The princes themselves become dust. Their councils yield to silence. Their carefully constructed hierarchies topple into history's graveyard.

Anchor For The Mind

To speak wisdom "among them that are perfect" refers to speaking mature spiritual truth to those who have been born by the spirit of God. While the world chases power structures and human intellect that inevitably crumble into uselessness, God reveals a wisdom that operates on a completely different plane:

  • The Illusion of Earthly Prominence: The "princes of this world”, whether rulers, cultural icons, or philosophical elites, build empires upon shifting sands. Their influence is temporary, and their power is rendered powerless in the light of eternity.
  • The Permanent Nature of Biblical Truth: Unlike the fleeting ideologies of human culture, the wisdom of God is unshakeable. It does not decay, grow obsolete, or succumb to the passage of time.
  • The Maturity of Spiritual Perception: Recognizing the ultimate worthlessness of worldly glory requires spiritual sight. Believers are called to discard reliance upon systems destined for destruction and instead anchor their minds in the enduring revelation of Jesus Christ.

Do Not Spend Eternity Clinging to What Comes to Nought

The Holy Ghost of God therefore urges believers not to measure truth by popularity, intellectual prestige, political authority, or worldly success. The wisdom of God may appear weak to the world, especially because it is revealed through the humility of Jesus Christ and the message of the cross. Yet this wisdom accomplishes what worldly power never can: it brings sinners to reconciliation with God and leads them into salvation, through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Let your words point beyond the passing glory of this world to the enduring truth of the Gospel. Let your life bear witness to the salvation you proclaim. Let your faith remain anchored in Christ when the wisdom of the age is celebrated, challenged, rejected, or forgotten.

You must not give your heart to the wisdom that is destined to come to nought. Human applause will fade, earthly power will pass away, and every achievement that is separated from God will ultimately be left empty. Turn instead to the wisdom of salvation revealed in Jesus Christ. Receive it with humility, live by it with courage, and preach the wisdom of salvation so that others may find the life, forgiveness, and eternal hope that the wisdom of this world can never give.

The Reality of the Resurrection

Salvation Has Been Brought Down

1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

Dead and Buried Never to Die Again

In 1 Corinthians 15:4, the Holy Ghost of God articulates the central, non-negotiable anchor of the Christian faith. The phrase "rose again the third day" is not merely a statement of historical occurrence; the Holy Ghost is not speaking of a metaphor, a spiritual awakening, or a story about the survival of Christ’s influence. He is declaring a historical reality: Jesus Christ, who truly died and was buried, truly rose from the dead on the third day.

Scripture Come To Life

The authority of Scripture – Paul emphasizes that these events are “according to the Scriptures.” The resurrection is not a myth or a later invention; it is rooted in God’s revealed word. The entire biblical narrative points to a Messiah who would die, be buried, and rise again, and the early church’s testimony confirms that these prophecies were fulfilled.

  • David prophesied that God would not leave His Holy One’s soul in hell, nor allow His Holy One to see corruption. Because bodily decay typically began on the fourth day, rising on the third day perfectly fulfilled this promise of incorruption.
  • After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
  • The Suffering Servant, after laying down His life as an offering for sin, is promised to "see his seed" and "prolong his days," pointing directly to life after death.

The burial proved He died for our sins; the resurrection on the third day proved His sacrifice was accepted, paying the debt of sin in full.

The Glorious Morning

When you look at that empty tomb, you are not looking at a mere artifact of ancient history, you are looking at the foundation of your eternal hope. Jesus did not stay in the grave, and because He rose again on that third day. Every promise in God’s Word converged on that glorious morning to guarantee your salvation, proving that your sins are forgiven, your guilt is washed away, and your future is secure in Him. Step out of the shadows of fear and doubt, and place your trust in the completed work of Jesus Christ the Savior of the world who broke the power of the grave for you, and wants to save you today.

The Gardener Who Brings Dead Souls to Life

From Dust to Glory

John 19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

The Setting: A Place of Paradox

The garden is one of Scripture's most profound symbols, and John positions this particular garden at the intersection of humanity's darkest moment and its greatest hope. The Holy Ghost is deliberate in mentioning the garden, not merely a hillside, not a common burial ground, but a garden. This recalls Genesis, where God first planted a garden as the dwelling place of life itself, where Adam and Eve walked in divine communion.

The garden where Jesus is crucified and buried is thus saturated with echoes. Where once creation flourished, now creation's Creator lies dead. The very soil that once nourished life now receives the lifeless body of the Giver of Life.

The Finality and the Silence

In this garden, death reigns. The crucifixion, Jesus's body broken, His blood spilled, His last breath drawn is not metaphorical or symbolic for you. It is utterly, devastatingly real. The soldiers gamble for His garments. His mother weeps. The disciples scatter in terror and despair.

And then He is placed in a tomb "wherein was never man yet laid." This detail matters profoundly. This is not a grave worn smooth by the passage of countless bodies. This is a virgin sepulchre, untouched by death until this moment. The purity of the tomb mirrors the sinlessness of its occupant, yet it underscores the horror: the only innocent one, the only truly life-giving one, now lies among the dead.

For three days and three nights, the garden is a place of absolute mourning. The women who would visit it come not in hope but in devotion to the dead, bringing spices to anoint a corpse. All seems finished. The garden has become a monument to death's power, a sealed tomb where hope itself has been buried.

Yet Beneath That Silence, God Is At Work

The garden holds a paradox. Flowers may bloom while a corpse lies within the tomb. Trees sway in the breeze while the Prince of Life rests in death. The fragrance of growing things mingles with the scent of burial spices. Death and life occupy the same ground.

The Garden Became The Meeting Place Of Mortality And Immortality

On one side stood the evidence of man's greatest sin: the crucified Christ. On the other stood the evidence of God's greatest promise: the soon-to-be empty tomb. The garden held both the weight of death and the certainty of coming life.

This Is The Mystery Of The Gospel

Jesus entered death willingly so that death would never again have the final word over those who believe in Him. He stepped into humanity's darkest place to bring forth an eternal morning. The place that should have proclaimed defeat became the birthplace of victory. The tomb became the doorway through which resurrection entered history.

The Gardener At Work

You may feel that your own life has become a garden of this kind, not the blooming, vibrant kind, but a place where the soil has gone dry and the things you loved have withered away. Perhaps you are carrying a shame that has turned your heart into a barren wasteland where nothing beautiful can grow. You might look at the ruins of your hope and believe that death has won, that your mistakes or your pain have permanently salted the earth. Remember that the most powerful act of salvation in history took place in a graveyard surrounded by greenery. Jesus Christ did not avoid the dead places; He walked straight into them, laid down his life, and broke the locks of the grave from the inside out. He is not a distant observer of your pain; He is the Gardener who specializes in resurrection. He reaches into the cold, dark soil of your deepest brokenness, not to leave you there, but to breathe life back into the dead places of your soul. No matter how long you have been a wasteland, He is calling you out of the tomb and into a new season, turning your winter of despair into a living, breathing garden of grace.

Remember, the Gardener who turned a borrowed tomb into an empty promise is the same One who can make you alive in him. He doesn’t just visit gardens, He is the resurrection and the life. And if you let Him, He will walk into the graveyard of your soul and bring you new life.

When the Trumpet Sounds

The Meeting In The Air

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Caught Up... In the Clouds

This verse stands as one of the Bible's clearest declarations of a believer's future hope. The phrase "caught up" carries the sense of a sudden, irresistible, and miraculous snatching away. The Holy Ghost describes the moment where the physical laws of the earth are suspended by the power of God. The imagery of clouds serve as the celestial vehicles of God’s presence and glory, from the pillar of cloud in the wilderness to the cloud that received Jesus at His ascension.

Those believers who are alive at the Lord's coming will not be separated from those who have already died in Christ. Instead, all God's redeemed people will be gathered into one great assembly in the clouds. Every barrier that time, distance, and death will be removed. Families divided by the grave, friends separated by loss, and generations of faithful believers will stand together as one redeemed people before their Savior.

And so shall we ever be with the Lord

This is the climax and comfort: the entire sequence exists to secure eternal, unbroken communion with Jesus. Believers now experience fellowship with Him, but then they will be “ever” (always, forever) with Him, through every stage of the final fulfillment of God’s plan. The anxiety over death and separation is answered by this promise: union with Christ becomes permanent and enviable.

This promise transforms the way believers view the present. Trials are temporary because His presence is eternal. Suffering has an end because His kingdom has no end. Even death becomes a defeated enemy because Christ has secured everlasting life for all who trust in Him.

Where Will You Spend Eternity?

Now hear this: If you are in Christ, if you have genuinely turned from your sin and placed your faith in His death, burial and resurrection, this promise belongs to you. Not as something distant and improbable, but as your inheritance. You will not face that final trumpet separated from Him. Your death—if it comes before His return, is not a tragedy but a doorway. Your life, however it unfolds, is moving toward a meeting more certain than any earthly appointment.

The cost of this certainty has already been paid. Christ descended once into the grave so that we might ascend into His presence. He rose victorious over death so that death would have no final word over us. Every believer who dies in faith is immediately in His presence; every believer alive at His coming will be instantly transformed and caught away to meet Him.

You have a choice today: to trust that His resurrection guarantees yours salvation and to live in the expectation of that moment when you will stand before Him in the clouds and enter into his joy that will never diminish, never fade, and never be interrupted. When that trumpet sounds and the heavens open, you will be with the Lord—forever.
