New Life Into New Vessels
Luke 5:37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
Fresh Reality
The message is that you cannot pour new wine into old bottles. The old ways of thinking, old habits, and old structures are not equipped to handle the freshness, vitality, and vigour of new ideas. If you try to force new wine into old bottles, the old will break, and both will be lost.
However, when you put new wine into new bottles, both are preserved. The new wine is contained and protected, and the new bottles are able to withstand the energy and enthusiasm of new. Represents is the idea that new ideas and experiences require new perspectives, new approaches, and new containers to flourish…what time is better than in 2026.
The image of new wine being placed into new bottles captures a timeless idea: fresh ideas, practices, or circumstances require fresh structures to contain and nurture them. When the old container is retained, it can distort, limit, or even spoil the new content.
Application For 2026
As we enter a new year, this concept can be particularly relevant:
- Letting Go of the Old: It encourages us to let go of old habits and negative behaviours
- Embracing the New: It inspires us to welcome new opportunities, challenges, and experiences with an open mind.
- Preparation: It reminds us to prepare ourselves (the new bottles) to receive and accommodate the new (the new wine), ensuring that both we and the new experiences are preserved.
“The old is gone — A new year is approaching”
- Ending and beginning: The old year represents worn patterns, stale routines, and past identities. The new year is an opportunity for renewed vision, different priorities, and transformed behavior.
- Implication: Don’t merely repeat last year’s forms with slightly altered goals. Instead of putting “new goals” into your old schedule, mindset, or systems, redesign the structures that support those goals so you can succeed.
