The King That Died For You

The Suffering Saviour Bring You Salvation

Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

John 19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

Two scenes—the cradle and the cross—is to witness the complete arc of the Gospel. They are linked by a single, haunting question that echoes from the wisemen to the halls of Pilate: "Who is this King?"

The Question of Identity: From Starlight to Shadow

In Matthew 2, the question is asked in expectation. The wisemen arrive with the dust of distant lands on their robes, asking, "Where is he that is born King?" They are looking for a throne, a palace, and a scepter. They follow a celestial beacon because they recognize that this child is the "Master Builder" of the universe, the one for whom the stars themselves act as heralds.

In John 19, the question is answered in execution. Pilate stands before a bloodied, mocked figure and cries out, "Behold the man!" The gold of the wisemen has been replaced by a purple robe of mockery; the star in the east is eclipsed by a crown of thorns. Pilate thinks he is presenting a broken prisoner, but he is actually presenting the "Quickening Spirit" in the very moment of His greatest victory.

The Harmony of the Two Crowns

  • The King of the Jews: The wisemen recognized His authority by birth. He didn't earn His kingship; it was His by nature. He is the original blueprint of humanity, the Last Adam.
  • The Man of Sorrows: Pilate revealed His access. By becoming "The Man," Jesus entered the "regions beyond" of human suffering. He took the "living soul" of the first Adam, which was subject to death, and brought it to the cross to be transformed.

The harmony lies here: The King was born to wear the thorns. He didn't lose His crown at the cross; He defined it. The star led to the King, but the thorns led to the Kingdom.

The Gospel’s Power in You

You stand at the crossroads of that ancient query and the crucifixion’s silent declaration. In the same star that guided the wisemen, the gospel shines on your heart, inviting you to see beyond the crown of thorns to the crown of life that follows. By believing, on the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ you step into a living relationship with the King who entered your world not to dominate, but to die for you.

Who is the King of the Jews? You are faced with the same question. Will you seek to worship him or will you reject him? The power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that it can transform your life, giving you a new perspective and a new purpose.

You have the power to choose. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not just a historical event, but a living, breathing message that speaks directly to your heart.  Accept Jesus' free gift of salvation today.
