The Reward That Awaits the Servants of the Lord

The Reward No One Else Could Give

Colossians 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

When the King Settles Every Account

In Colossians 3:24, the Holy Spirit pivots your gaze from the immediate, often ungrateful tasks of your daily life to a far more stable and glorious horizon. To "receive the reward" is the final, definitive resolution of a life lived in the service of the King.

1. The Source: Of the Lord

The most critical part of this passage is the origin of the compensation. Paul is writing to you, who may have been overlooked, underpaid, or even mistreated.

  • The Audit: Your true employer is not a person or an organization; it is the Lord Christ. Human managers may miss your late nights, your integrity in the "regions beyond" of the office, or your "meekness" under pressure. God does not.
  • The Certitude of the Debt: Because the reward comes "of the Lord," it is not subject to economic downturns or human whim. It is a guaranteed payout from the one who "trieth our hearts" and is faithful.

2. The Nature: The Reward of the Inheritance

There is a profound theological paradox here. Usually, a reward is earned by labor, but an inheritance is received by birth.

  • The Quickening Link: This connects back to the "Last Adam." Because you have been quickened by His Spirit, you are now a legal heir. The "work" you do is not to earn the family name, but because you carry it.
  • The Unfading Quality: Unlike an earthly paycheck that is spent and forgotten, this reward is an "inheritance"—it is substantial, eternal, and "furnished" by the Righteous Paymaster Himself.

3. The Motivation: For Ye Serve the Lord Christ

This is the "blueprint" for transformed service. When you realize that every report disseminated, every note written to a friend, and every act of "longsuffering" is a direct service to the Lord Christ, the mundane becomes majestic. You are not just fulfilling a contract; you are King’s faithful servant.

Your Crown is Coming

You have spent many days wondering if the sacrifices you make in the shadows are truly seen. You have worked until your hands were weary and your heart felt thin, often receiving little more than silence or further demands in return. You have held fast to "sound words" when it would have been easier to compromise, and you have served with a "perfect and upright" heart even when no one was watching to applaud.

You must lift your eyes from the dust of the daily grind.

The Lord Christ is not an indifferent Master. He has seen every hidden act of faithfulness and every silent victory over the "living soul’s" exhaustion. There is a "reward of inheritance" with your name on it—a weight of glory that is being carefully prepared for you even now. You are not working for a fading "living" but for an eternal "inheritance."

Your quiet obedience, your hidden sacrifices, and your labor of love although unnoticed by others; the Lord will not dismiss. When you finally stand before the Lord, the Quickener," He will not look at your pedigree or statistics or your status; He will look at your heart which He has tried and found faithful. In that moment, the weight of every trial will fall away, replaced by the staggering glory of His reward. You will realize that every ounce of strength you gave was an investment in an eternity that can never fade.

Standfast, for the King is coming, and His reward is with Him and you will find that He is not only the Giver of the prize, but He is the Prize.

The King That Died For You

The Suffering Saviour Bring You Salvation

Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

John 19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

Two scenes—the cradle and the cross—is to witness the complete arc of the Gospel. They are linked by a single, haunting question that echoes from the wisemen to the halls of Pilate: "Who is this King?"

The Question of Identity: From Starlight to Shadow

In Matthew 2, the question is asked in expectation. The wisemen arrive with the dust of distant lands on their robes, asking, "Where is he that is born King?" They are looking for a throne, a palace, and a scepter. They follow a celestial beacon because they recognize that this child is the "Master Builder" of the universe, the one for whom the stars themselves act as heralds.

In John 19, the question is answered in execution. Pilate stands before a bloodied, mocked figure and cries out, "Behold the man!" The gold of the wisemen has been replaced by a purple robe of mockery; the star in the east is eclipsed by a crown of thorns. Pilate thinks he is presenting a broken prisoner, but he is actually presenting the "Quickening Spirit" in the very moment of His greatest victory.

The Harmony of the Two Crowns

  • The King of the Jews: The wisemen recognized His authority by birth. He didn't earn His kingship; it was His by nature. He is the original blueprint of humanity, the Last Adam.
  • The Man of Sorrows: Pilate revealed His access. By becoming "The Man," Jesus entered the "regions beyond" of human suffering. He took the "living soul" of the first Adam, which was subject to death, and brought it to the cross to be transformed.

The harmony lies here: The King was born to wear the thorns. He didn't lose His crown at the cross; He defined it. The star led to the King, but the thorns led to the Kingdom.

The Gospel’s Power in You

You stand at the crossroads of that ancient query and the crucifixion’s silent declaration. In the same star that guided the wisemen, the gospel shines on your heart, inviting you to see beyond the crown of thorns to the crown of life that follows. By believing, on the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ you step into a living relationship with the King who entered your world not to dominate, but to die for you.

Who is the King of the Jews? You are faced with the same question. Will you seek to worship him or will you reject him? The power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that it can transform your life, giving you a new perspective and a new purpose.

You have the power to choose. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not just a historical event, but a living, breathing message that speaks directly to your heart.  Accept Jesus' free gift of salvation today.

Before You Give Up, Remember...

A Soul That Refuses to Forget

Psalm 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

In Psalm 103:2, the Psalmist issues a command to his own "inner man" to resist the natural gravity of the flesh—which is forgetfulness. The word "benefits" describes the massive, structural advantages of being in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

When you are told to "forget not all his benefits," you are being called to an audit of the soul.

1. The Inventory of Grace

The "benefits" of salvation are not just abstract ideas; they are functional, legal, and relational assets that change your daily reality.

  • The Benefit of Forgiveness: In the verses immediately following, the first benefit listed is the healing of all "iniquities." Your primary debt—the one that kept you a prisoner of your sin and "smallness”, has been fully discharged.
  • The Benefit of Redemption: He "redeemeth thy life from destruction." This is the rescue from the "pit”, the constant pull of the world’s "affairs" and the cravings of the flesh.
  • The Benefit of Renewal: He "satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." This is the infusion of spiritual strength that allows you to stay grounded during the storm.

2. The Command to Remember

The greatest threat to your peace is not the presence of a problem, but the absence of a memory.

  • The Fog of the Mundane: The "affairs of this life" act like a thick fog designed to make you forget the "Record." If you forget the benefits, you begin to live like a beggar, frantically trying to "earn" what has already been "given."
  • The Act of Blessing: To "bless the Lord" is to align your speech and your thoughts with the truth of the Lord’s goodness. It is the active refusal to let your soul sink into the apathy of the ungrateful.

3. The Architecture of Provision

The "benefits" are described as a "crown" of lovingkindness and tender mercies. You are literally "surrounded" by the advantages of the love of Jesus Christ. You are not just "saved" from hell; you are "saved" into all the benefits of sonship.

The Audit of the Heart

You have spent so many days walking with your head down, counting the pennies of your own effort and worrying about the "fading" strength of your own resolve. You have lived in the frantic mental labor of trying to survive a world that feels vast and indifferent, and you have allowed the "affairs of this life" to whisper that you are alone, that you are forgotten, and that you are poor. You have looked at your cravings and your "smallness" as if they were the final word on your destiny.

But you must wake up your soul.

Stop the "forgetting" that has robbed you of your joy. You are not a solitary civilian trying to navigate a minefield; you are a child of the King, and you are standing on a mountain of benefits that you did not have to build. The debt is gone. The mercy is new.

You don't have to beg for a future when you are already draped in a "crown of lovingkindness."

When the world tries to tell you that you have nothing, look back at the Record. You are rich in the things that cannot be stolen. You are safe in the hands that cannot be moved. You are "satisfied" by the One who never runs dry. Rest your weary heart in the bountiful dealing of Jesus Christ. Don't let another hour pass without reminding your soul of the fortune it holds. You are loved. You are provided for and the Lord is beckoning you home.

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

The Same Power That Keeps the Universe Together

It is a proclamation. A thunderous declaration that at the centre of all creation stands a Name charged with all authority, unstoppable power, and eternal preeminence…The name of Jesus Christ

The power of God is not abstract. It is not distant. It is not theoretical. It is alive—embodied in Jesus Christ.

When we say “All hail,” we are calling heaven and earth to attention. We are summoning angels, nations, kings, and broken hearts alike to bow before the King of kings that cannot be shaken. The name of Jesus carries the weight of eternity. It commands storms to cease. It calls the dead to rise. It breaks chains forged in the darkest valleys of despair.

Every miracle recorded—water turned to wine, the blind receiving sight, the dead are raised—testifies to a power that knows no boundary, no law, no limit.

The hymn does not merely proclaim His power—it invites participation. “Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.” This is a call to surrender. To “hail” His power is to bow willingly. It is to lay down pride, fear, control, and declare that His authority is good, just, and filled with love. God’s power is not tyrannical; it is redemptive. It does not crush the humble—it lifts them.

There is something deeply humbling about the realization that the One who commands heaven’s armies also knows our names.  The power of God is not distant lightning in the sky—it is near, personal, and transformative.

The Peace Found in Crowning Him Lord of All

And so we hail—not with empty words, but with the weight of eternity behind them. You hail the power of Jesus' name because you have seen it work. You have witnessed it in the lives of those who were lost and are now found. You have felt it in our own hearts, transforming our deepest wounds into sources of wisdom and compassion. This name represents the ultimate victory: not of force over force, but of love over hate, life over death, hope over despair.

In this name lies the power that will ultimately restore all things. Every injustice will be answered. Every tear will be wiped away. Every broken heart will be made whole. When you hail this power, you are not merely reciting ancient words—you are declaring your trust in a future where suffering ends and the Lord reigns over the universe. You are acknowledging that despite the chaos of your present, you serve a God whose power is absolute, whose love is infinite, and whose promises are sure.

This is why we hail. This is why you bow. This is why, across all the ages and all the earth, countless voices rise in unison: All hail the power of Jesus' name. In those words lives your deepest longing, your greatest hope, and your truest assurance.

The Only Path to the Winner's Circle

 Strive Lawfully for True Victory

2 Timothy 2: 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

The Great Exchange

This passage draws from the world of athletic competition, where the aim is clear and singular: to win. To strive for masteries is to enter the contest with determination, discipline, and an eye fixed on the prize. No one trains casually for mastery. The athlete rises early, denies himself comfort, endures strain and fatigue, and orders his entire life around the pursuit of victory. The crown is not an accident—it is the reward of intentional, relentless striving.

In the context of competition, winning is often the ultimate goal. However, the passage cautions that winning is not just about achieving victory at all costs. Rather, it highlights the significance of winning lawfully, by following the established rules and guidelines. This approach ensures that the competition is fair; however, the challenge arises when one believes that they can get to heaven through their own unlawful means; their good works, pedigree, their discipline or some other construct of man…you are striving unlawfully.

A Focus on Winning

Winning is often the ultimate goal in any competitive endeavor, whether it's in sports, academics, business, or personal development. The desire to win drives individuals to push their limits, innovate, and persevere. However, the passage reminds us that the path to winning is just as important as the victory itself. True winners acknowledges that there are no shortcuts to victory. Acknowledges that salvation by grace through faith is the only way to heaven; therefore, to win you must put your full faith and confidence of Jesus Christ.

The Dignity of the Lawful Struggle

There is a hollow, haunting silence that follows a win achieved by cutting corners. You may have the crown on your head, but the weight of the "unlawful" struggle will eventually crush your spirit. You will know, even if the world doesn't, that the pedestal you stand on is built on deception.

The need to strive lawfully is the need to protect the value of the win.

If you cheat the process, salvation by grace through faith, you cheat yourself of the transformation that the Lord was intended to produce in you. The greatest tragedy is not losing the race; it is "winning" while losing the true riches, your testimony. The crown is only beautiful when it rests on a brow that hasn't been furrowed by the guilt of compromise but has endured sacrifice.

When you stand before Him,  He who will judge the quick and the dead, at the end of your race, He will not ask how many people you beat; He will look at your feet to see if you stayed within the lines of charity and faithfulness. Strive for the mastery. Run with everything you have. But remember: a crown without character is just a heavy piece of dead leaves. True victory is the ability to look at your reflection and the Creator and know that you ran the race as it was meant to be run—with patience, by grace through faith, and with an eye on the Prize that never fades.

The Heart of God Offering Hope and Redemption

Christmas: When Heaven Stepped Into Our Story

Christmas is more than a season—it is a declaration. It is the moment when eternity touched time, when God did not remain distant but choose to living among his creation.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Hope

Christmas should remind you that God saw humanity having no hope, in darkness and answered it with Light.

John 1:5 The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

The world did not recognize Him. There was no palace, no crown, no applause—only a manger.

Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Christmas tells the story of a God who meets you where we are so we might be led where He is. It declares that no heart is too far, no night too dark, and no life beyond redemption.

This season invites you to pause—not just to celebrate, but to receive. To welcome the Light of life.

Because Christmas is not about what we give—it’s about the Lord’s perfect offer to you.

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
