snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Refrain:
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
2 Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
waiting the penitent child to receive;
plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe. [Refrain]
3 Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
cords that are broken will vibrate once more. [Refrain]
4 Rescue the perishing, duty demands it—
strength for your labor the Lord will provide;
back to the narrow way patiently win them,
tell the poor wand'rer a Savior has died. [Refrain]

Standing Between Two Tables: The Decision That Shapes Eternity
Two Cups, Two Tables But Only One Choice
1 Corinthians 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
The Incompatibility of Two Cups:
Scripture's most stark dichotomy: a choice between two cups that cannot coexist in the same hand or heart at the same time. This passage cuts to the spiritual core of what it means to claim allegiance to Jesus Christ while potentially maintaining fellowship with idolatry.
Throughout Scripture, a cup is more than a vessel from which one drinks; it symbolizes participation, fellowship, and acceptance of a portion assigned by God. To drink from a cup is to identify oneself with what that cup represents. It is an outward act that signifies an inward allegiance.
Contrasting The Two Cups
“The cup of the Lord,” is referring to the cup of fellowship, which commemorates the blood of Christ. This cup speaks of the New Covenant established through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. It proclaims reconciliation to God, redemption from sin, and fellowship with the crucified and risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Every sincere participant who drinks from this cup confesses that his hope rests entirely upon the atoning work of Christ. The cup declares dependence upon the mercy of God, gratitude for redeeming grace, and loyalty to the Lord who purchased your salvation with His own blood.
In contrast, “the cup of devils” signifies participation in that which is opposed to God. In the immediate context, where eating and drinking to the point of excess, fellowship is purely carnal. To drink from such a cup was to identify with a spiritual rival.
The Call to Decision
This passage urges you to reflect on their spiritual state and the choices they make daily. Each time you stand at the table, you are confronted with a profound question: Where do your true loyalties lie? The act of communion invites you to reaffirm your commitment to Christ and his body.
Homage At The Table
The fellowship extends from the cup to the table, the unity of believers gathered in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice, is God given and God ordained. You cannot simultaneously sit at the Lord's table and the devil's table. These tables represent not just different meals but different kingdoms, different loves, different hopes, and ultimately different eternities.
The table of the Lord gathers the redeemed. It speaks of forgiveness and joy, freedom from sin, this common salvation and restoration has already been guaranteed by the completed work of Jesus Christ. The devil's table gathers the deceived, those who chase shadows instead of substance, temporary pleasures, the lust of the flesh and pride of life instead.
Choose Your Table Wisely
If you have never drunk the cup of the Lord, if you have never experienced the forgiveness and resurrection power of Christ, the table remains open to you. The invitation has always stood. All who genuinely turn to Him and receive His sacrifice, are welcome. But you cannot hedge your bets. You cannot hold one hand out to Christ and keep the other in the darkness.
Choose the cup. Choose the table. Choose Him—wholly, without reservation, without the poison of divided loyalty. Your salvation hangs not on your perfection but on your honesty and your willingness to abandon all competitors to His throne. And if you will do this, you will discover a joy, a peace, and an eternal hope that no false table in this world could ever provide.

Knowing the End Changes How You Love Today
Confidence In The Word of God
2 Peter 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Why We Weren’t Made to Stay
The speaker Peter writes by inspiration of the Holy Ghost something that you most likely spend your life attempting to avoiding: the nearness of death. There is no denial here, no bargaining, no desperate grasping for more time. There is clarity. There is acceptance. There is even a patient dignity.
The phrase “shortly I must put off” carries a profound weight. “Shortly” suggests urgency—not in panic, but in awareness. Time is no longer an abstract concept stretching endlessly ahead. It has edges now. It has a horizon that can be seen. To know that one’s remaining days are few is to see life differently. Every word matters more. Every relationship becomes more precious.
But it is the word “shortly” that pierces the heart.
Shortly.
Not someday.
Not eventually.
Not in the vague distance of old age.
Shortly.
As you reflect on Peter's words, you are reminded that your own time on this earth is limited. You must "put off" your tabernacles, or physical bodies, at some point. This is a daunting reality if you are not in Christ, but it can also be a powerful motivator to live each day with purpose and in faith.
How the Holy Spirit Reframes Our Exit
“Even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me"—anchors Peters, acceptance in something larger than his feelings or personal philosophy. The Peter has learned this truth from Christ's. Jesus, too, put off his tabernacle. He faced death with focus, composure and purpose, and in doing so, conquered death itself. The Holy Ghost of God is speaking to you is saying: I am not walking into darkness alone; I am following a path already walked by Jesus Christ.
Turning Bitterness into Steadfast Grace
There is an aching beauty in this passage—a kind of peace that only comes when you stop fighting the inevitable and instead accept the free gift of God via his son Jesus Christ.
You spend so much of your life pretending you have unlimited time. You postpone conversations, defer kindness, delay forgiveness. You treat your days as if they are infinite, as if there will always be another chance, another season, another moment, another tomorrow. But this passage whispers a different truth: shortly, you must let go.
Yet there is no despair in these words. Instead, there is a liberation. When you truly accept that your time in this body is temporary—that you are, a pilgrim in a borrowed dwelling—something shifts. The petty anxieties lose their grip. The things that seemed so urgent become fickle. And what should remain is: you and the word of God, you and the Spirit of God, your testimony.
The Holy Ghost of God teaches us Christ that death is not an ending but a transition and translation. Knowing this, you can face the brevity of life not with bitterness, but with a quiet, steadfast grace that is only found in the Jesus Christ.

Salvation Isn’t an Escape Plan—It’s a Total Transformation
When Salvation Happens, the Clock Strikes New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Being in Christ
To be "in Christ" means that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you have accepted Him as your one and only Savior. This relationship is not just about believing in Jesus Christ's existence or even just His teachings; it's about a personal connection to his completed work on Calvary.
A New Creature
The phrase "he is a new creature” speaks to the profound change in the your nature. The word "creature” means that something is created or brought into being. When you becomes a Christian or a child of God, you experience a spiritual rebirth. This doesn't mean they become a different person in a physical or outward sense immediately, but spiritually, they are grafted into the family of God.
“All Things” Becoming New
The scope is holistic:
- Personal – mind, heart, desires, and actions are transformed.
- Relational – the believer is grafted into the body of Christ, gaining a new community of believers.
- Eschatological – the present experience anticipates the ultimate renewal of creation (Romans 8:19‑23).
| ASPECT | OLD STATE | NEW STATE | SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity | Old self, defined by sin and worldly nature | New creature in Christ, redefined by divine purpose | Complete personal reconstruction |
| Perspective | Limited, earthly, self-centered | Eternal, divine, Christ-centered | Radical worldview transformation |
| Spiritual Condition | Separated from God | Reconciled and connected to God | Restored relationship |
Conclusion
The salvation offered by Jesus Christ is not just about avoiding hell or gaining heaven; it's about transformation. It's about becoming a new creature in 2026. The change happens at the moment of salvation, like going from 11:59 to 12:00. This new life is characterized through the power of Word of God through sanctification, a believer now can live in 2026, their new identity as a child of God.
