The Lord’s Cosmic Order

The Lord Unveiling the Universe

Job 38:33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

The passage posed a profound question about the understanding and control of natural phenomena in the universe. Let's explore three natural phenomena that occur in space and the sky, and develop the understanding how they all operate at the direct order of the Lord.

1. Celestial Bodies and Orbits

Celestial bodies such as planets, stars, and moons follow precise orbits dictated by gravitational forces. For example, the Earth orbits the Sun in a nearly elliptical path, taking about 365.25 days to complete one revolution. The force of gravity regulates the distances, ensuring that each celestial body maintains its designated position. This intricate balance is maintained purely by the will of God.

2. Auroras

Auroras, often referred to as the Aurora Borealis or Aurora Australis, are spectacular light displays in polar regions, resulting from the interaction of the Earth's magnetic field with charged particles from the sun. When these solar particles collide with gases in the atmosphere, they produce vibrant colors like green, pink, and purple. This enchanting phenomenon reminds us of the forces of nature, entirely independent of human influence.

3. Eclipses

Solar and lunar eclipses represent another fascinating natural event. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking sunlight. Conversely, during a lunar eclipse, the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the lunar surface. These eclipses can only happen during specific alignments of the celestial bodies and happen predictably, based on the mechanics of our solar system, regardless of human activities.

Complexity is the Lords art

These natural phenomena are all governed by the ordinances that the Lord has set in motion, and are not influenced by human actions. The Earth's rotation, the Moon's orbit, and the Sun's energy output are just a few examples of the many factors that contribute to these events. None of them are affected by man’s authority; humans may observe, model, and sometimes respond to their effects, but he cannot set, control, or recreate these ordinances.

In conclusion, these natural wonders are a gift from God and a reminder of the vast and complex universe that the Lord’s Jesus Christ created.
