The Priceless Cost of A Single Soul

God’s Price For Your Salvation

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Have You Counted The Cost

There are few truths in Scripture more humbling than these words: “ye are bought with a price.” The Holy Spirit of God does not say that you have improved yourself, earned your way back to God, or purchased your own redemption. He says that you were bought. Salvation is not something you accomplish; it is something God has accomplished for you.

This truth is meant to destroy both pride and despair. Pride is silenced because you cannot claim yourself as your own master when Christ has redeemed you. Despair is overcome because your value is revealed in the immeasurable price Jesus Christ was willing to pay for you. The cross demonstrates both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God’s love. Christ did not purchase something worthless; He gave Himself to redeem those who were spiritually lost and unable to save themselves.

The Implications of Ownership

“therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Your body is no longer your own to do with as you please. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit. The vessel through which you walk, work, speak, and act belongs to Jesus Christ. This extends beyond the spiritual realm it touches the physical: your eating, your sexuality, your rest, your labor, your leisure. Every bodily action is to reflect the holiness of the One who purchased you.

Your spirit, too that innermost essence of your being, your conscience, your will, your worship belongs to God. Your thoughts are His to guide. Your affections are His to redirect. Your desires are His to sanctify. There is no compartment of your existence that remains yours to manage independently.

Salvation Cost You Nothing

Listen closely: You have been purchased at an infinite cost, and that cost demands a response from you right now. Not tomorrow, not when you feel more spiritually ready but today.

If you have never been born again, never experienced that moment when you accepted the completed work of Jesus Christ, then you cannot truly glorify God, no matter how hard you try or how moral you appear. The only way to glorify God is through the rebirth that comes when you repent of your unbelief and obey the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Transformed Mind of the Believer

But if you have been born again, then awaken to what you truly are: purchased property of the King of kings, Jesus Christ the Son of the Blessed, indwelt by His Spirit, called to glorify Him in every dimension of your being body, soul, and spirit. Let that truth transform how you live. You are not your own. You belong to God. And that is the greatest privilege and the deepest source of purpose you could ever know.

The Deceptive Nature of Sin

The Mechanism of Spiritual Deception

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Spiritual cause and effect

Deception is ultimately a futile attempt to circumvent biblical principles. The warning "God is not mocked" emphasizes the immutability of spiritual consequences.

Sin deceives by minimizing its impact in the moment while hiding its long-term effects. It whispers that a small compromise is harmless, that no one will notice, or that repentance later will erase all consequences. The false promise is exposed: “He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption.” Corruption is not instant; it is the slow decay that begins the moment sin’s seed is planted. The harvest may be delayed, but it is inevitable.

Sin's Progressive Nature

"Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay" - is a powerful metaphorical description of sin's deceptive and progressive nature. It illustrates how:

  1. Sin is progressive: Typically it gradually draws you away from the presence of the Lord.
  2. Sin is addictive: Once engaged, it becomes increasingly difficult to break free, keeping you trapped beyond your initial intention.
  3. Sin is costly: The price of compromise extends far beyond immediate gratification, impacting personal, relational, and spiritual growth.

The danger is sin is wicked, evil and gross but even more egregious is  its ability to make you believe lies about its nature, its consequences, and its ultimate cost. Therefore, the call is to vigilance, discernment, and intentional sowing—to recognize deception.

Let The Truth of God Be Your Guide

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Spirit of Truth

The passage emphasizes the profound role of the Spirit of Truth, which refers to a guiding force devoted to illuminating the path of truth and wisdom. This Spirit is not self-serving; instead, it is the Spirit of God, only conveying messages it receives—from God’s holy bible. This selflessness is pivotal because it underscores that truth is not opinion but Spiritual and rest in Jesus Christ who is the Word.

Practical implications: Because the Spirit of God guides, believers are invited to receive the Spirit of God through the acceptance of Jesus Christ…without works: prayer, attentive obedience, testing what is communicated against the bible. The Spirit’s work transforms understanding into practical obedience, shaping decisions, convictions, repentance and salvation.

A Call to Seek Truth

In conclusion, the profound message of the Spirit of Truth encourages us to embrace truth in our lives. It invites us to reflect critically on our beliefs, challenging us to strip away preconceived notions and biases.

We are called to buy the truth and sell it not, to rejoice in truth, to speak the truth and to be the pillar and ground of the truth.
Truth is not always comfortable, but it is the pathway to true, growth, and liberty.

Are you ready to desire truth above all else?
